Ever fancied trying printmaking but assumed it was too complicated? This relaxed, hands-on workshop is designed to show just how enjoyable and accessible block printing can be. Whether you're completely new to creative activities or looking for a different way to express yourself, you'll be guided through the process from start to finish.
Using specialist carving tools and soft rubber printing blocks, you'll design and create your own reusable stamp before learning how to ink and print your designs. Unlike traditional lino, the materials used are easy to carve and ideal for beginners, making it simple to achieve impressive results in just a few hours.
Your finished stamp can be used again and again to create greetings cards, gift wrap, artwork, tea towels, T-shirts, table linens and personalised gifts. By the end of the session, you'll leave with your hand-carved stamp (approximately A6 size), a collection of prints and projects, and the confidence to continue printing at home.
All materials and equipment are included. Workshops take place at Muswell Hill Books & Parlour, 190 Fortis Green Road, London N10 3DU.
To ensure plenty of individual support, each workshop is limited to a maximum of eight participants. Most beginners start with a simple single-colour design, while those looking for more of a challenge can explore techniques such as multi-block, reduction or jigsaw printing. Before the session, we'll discuss your interests and creative goals so the workshop can be tailored to your experience and ambitions.
Suitable for adults and children aged 8 and over, the workshop offers a welcoming, unhurried atmosphere where you can learn a new skill, enjoy a creative challenge and spend a few mindful hours away from screens and daily distractions. Children are welcome when accompanied by a participating parent or guardian. Tea, coffee and light refreshments are provided throughout the session.
Private workshops for groups of up to eight people are available for £350, including all materials.
Sessions last approximately three hours, with dates and times arranged by mutual agreement.
