Remember lino printing at school and how difficult it seemed? The good news is that printmaking has come a long way since then. It's a wonderfully accessible and rewarding art form that's perfect for anyone who thinks they "can't draw" or believes they're “not creative enough” to make art.
This friendly, hands-on workshop is the perfect introduction to block printing. No previous experience is needed, and you don't need any drawing skills—just a willingness to have a go and enjoy the process.
During the workshop, you'll learn how to use specialist carving tools safely, design and carve your own unique stamp, and then ink and print your design on a fabric patch to take home. We use soft, easy-to-carve rubber blocks rather than traditional lino, making the process much easier and more enjoyable for beginners. Your finished stamp can be used again and again to create handmade cards, wrapping paper, artwork, tea towels, T-shirts, tablecloths and unique gifts.
All materials and equipment are provided, so you can simply turn up and start creating. Workshops take place at the Make & Mend Festival on Saturday 17th October, Hornsey Town Hall, Crouch End Broadway, London N8 8JJ
Classes are intentionally kept small to ensure everyone receives plenty of individual guidance and support.
Suitable for adults and children aged 8 and over, this workshop offers a relaxed, welcoming environment where creativity can flourish. Children are welcome to attend with a parent or guardian, with both booking a place. The pace is unhurried and supportive, creating a peaceful, non-competitive space where you can switch off, learn something new and enjoy a bit of time away from everyday distractions.
Each place costs £28 and includes all materials used during the session.
At the end of the workshop, you'll take home your hand-carved stamp (approximately A6 size), along with a fabric patch printed during the class. You'll also have the skills and confidence to continue printing at home, creating beautiful handmade gifts and artwork for friends, family and yourself.
Workshops last 90 minutes and you can choose a session at either 1.15pm to 2.45pm or 3pm to 4.30pm
During this 90-minute workshop you'll:
Design and carve your own lino block
Learn the basics of relief printing
Print your design onto a fabric patch to take home
Keep your carved lino block for future printing
